Does Raiders' latest addition hint blockbuster trade is coming?

On Monday, former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup reportedly agreed to sign a one-year deal worth up to $3M with the Las Vegas Raiders, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

As a result, chatter about a potential blockbuster trade has returned.

Six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams has been subject to trade rumors for much of the offseason and rightfully so. Adams is 31 and isn't getting any younger.

The Raiders also don't seem like a team that's ready to contend for a Super Bowl, especially after not coming away with a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Veteran Gardner Minshew is now the likely starter for the 2024 season. Although he didn't play poorly in 2023, throwing for 3,305 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions with the Colts, it's hard to envision him making Las Vegas a true contender.

Adams shut down the trade rumors earlier this month.

"If I wanted to be gone, I'd be gone by now," Adams said, via Tashan Reed of The Athletic. "This is where I want to be."

However, things may have changed since the conclusion of this year's draft.

The Raiders came away with a couple of impactful offensive additions in tight end Brock Bowers and guard Jackson Powers-Johnson, but both are long-term pieces to the team.

The question: is Adams? If not, Las Vegas trading him for future draft capital that could be used to go get its next quarterback would be a smart move.

It wouldn't leave Minshew empty-handed with wide receivers Jakobi Meyers and Gallup and tight ends Bowers and Michael Mayer still at his disposal, and it would also allow the Raiders to keep planning for the future.

What the Raiders would get in return is up for debate, but Adams showed no signs of slowing down in 2023, reeling in 103 catches for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns. A receiver of his caliber could be very valuable at this point of the offseason.
