2024 is filled with some of the most intriguing storylines in MLB history. Countless stories have caught fans’ attention. Renowned music artist Bad Bunny is making more baseball headlines with a lawsuit toward the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) from his agency, Rimas Sports.

Rimas Sports has accused the MLBPA of “placing a death penalty” on the agency through “a discriminatory, biased, and pre-determined investigation” into Rimas’ business practices, per a federal lawsuit the company filed Thursday, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports.

On April 10, the MLBPA reportedly decertified a Rimas agent and prevented two executives from seeking certification after accusing the sports agency of providing improper player benefits. As a result, Rimas sought a temporary restraining order and injunction against the penalties put forth by the union. The agency argued the penalties were “designed to permanently Rimas Sports out of business.”

“By blanketly prohibiting any MLBPA certified agents from affiliating with Rimas Sports and Rimas Entertainment in any capacity,” the complaint said, “the MLBPA has effectively placed a death-penalty sanction on Rimas Sports as an agency and prohibited Rimas Entertainment, which is not in the sports agency business and has never had a MLBPA Certified Agent, from contracting with clients who may wish to secure branding, sponsorship or endorsement deals. These restrictions extend well beyond the scope of the MLBPA’s authority to regulate its agents.”

It will be interesting to see how the lawsuit plays out for Bad Bunny’s agency. The story is one of many controversial MLB happenings during 2024. Nevertheless, there are great things on the diamond for fans to look forward to.

Bad Bunny lawsuit not a deterrent toward the exiting 2024 MLB season

One of the most exciting MLB teams to watch in 2024 is the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers signed former Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani to a massive contract during the free agency period. Ohtani joined an already-stacked Dodgers team and looks to help the club win big.

The two-way superstar is not pitching in 2024 due to the promotion of a full recovery from his elbow surgery in 2023. Yet, Ohtani retains his outstanding offensive abilities.

Ohtani was in the midst of another tremendous season before his injury. The 29-year-old boasted an OPS of 1.066, hit 44 home runs, batted a .304 average, and accumulated 95 RBI. On the pitching side, Ohtani was 10-5, threw 167 strikeouts, and earned a 3.14 ERA to go with 1.06 WHIP.

He has picked up right where he left off. Through 43 games, the two-time AL MVP leads the league in batting average (.364), OPS (1.108), and is second in home runs (12).

Ohtani has an outstanding supporting cast filled with names like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. In addition, the Dodgers picked up Nippon Professional Baseball star Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The 25-year-old was among the best pitchers in the Japanese league and will be a fine addition to an LA team with high aspirations.

It will be interesting to see how the Dodgers and numerous other talented MLB teams fare in this exciting season. Who will win the World Series in Fall 2024?
